I am Maria.
. I’m a registered Humanistic and Existential Psychotherapist (Reg No: FMPAP-HE 136), a graduate psychologist, and a trained Yoga Teacher. My work is an evolving synthesis of psychotherapy, yoga, and creative expression—each deeply rooted in personal experience and professional growth.
My journey began with a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology. During an internship at the Oncology Department of the General Hospital of Nicosia, I found myself drawn to the depth and sensitivity of psychotherapy. This calling took me to the UK, where I began formal training in Gestalt Psychotherapy.
What I came to understand is that becoming a psychotherapist isn’t just about gaining knowledge—it’s about the willingness to turn inward. I had to face the parts of myself that were uncomfortable, messy, or long ignored—the ones still holding pain, fear, or confusion. No amount of reading or watching could substitute for that inner work. I had to meet those parts with compassion, stay with them through discomfort, and begin to make peace with them. The process was anything but easy, but it was honest. It asked me to stop bypassing and start integrating. This commitment—to truly meet myself—became the foundation of the way I now meet others in my work.
Rather than following a single, linear path, my development unfolded across several parallel threads: therapy, yoga, and creative exploration. Psychotherapy gave me the tools to sit with the “unwanted” parts of myself with courage and curiosity. Yoga taught me how to inhabit and honour my body—often the place where those parts reside. Creativity offered a language for the parts of me that words couldn’t always reach.
Over the years, these elements began to weave together. I noticed how my yoga practice informed my therapeutic work, and how both were enriched by creative expression. What once seemed like separate identities became one integrated approach—embodied, relational, and human.
Today, my practice is shaped by that integration. I don’t claim to be an expert, but rather a fellow traveller—someone willing to walk alongside you, listen deeply, and explore with openness and care. Whether you’re drawn to therapy, movement, or creative expression, I invite you to show up as you are. There’s room here for your whole self.
As someone who has lived and worked in the UK, Spain, and Cyprus—both in public and private settings—I bring a multicultural perspective and adaptability to my work.
